British American Tobacco Zimbabwe (Holdings) Limited (BATZ) is a Zimbabwe-based company which manufactures, distributes and sells cigarettes through a network of independent retailers and distributors.
As of 31 December 2009 the Company’s main shareholder was British American Tobacco International Holdings (UK) Limited, which held 56.95% of the share capital.Founded in 1920, BATZ is the country’s leading tobacco company and holds a dominant market share of the Zimbabwean market.
The Company has a cigarette manufacturing plant in Zimbabwe and sells cigarettes on the Zimbabwe market. The Company also manufactures semi-processed tobacco for export to British American Tobacco Mozambique. BAT operates two main production lines, which include cigarettes line and cut rag line. The Company also has a strong distribution network and brand portfolio. Its strong countrywide distribution network operates out of five depots in Harare, Bulawayo, Gweru,Mutare and Masvingo, with outlying areas being serviced by third parties.
Its portfolio includes Dunhill,Newbury, Berkeley, Madison, Everest and Kingsgate.
